The need for increased investment to drive productivity and economic growth has been consistently advocated for by NIESR. How this is achieved will be a question that any future government will need to answer. This event, which focuses on the role that pension funds may be able to play, provides one potential solution.

Building on an initial discussion that took place in December 2023, this roundtable event will seek to explore how pension funds could be encouraged to help the financing of infrastructure, start-ups or second stage finance and whether the regulation of pension funds led to relative weakness in UK share prices. And, if it did has this damaged the UK stock exchange and can it be rectified without government cost?

These issues are not only of national interest but also hold specific relevance to various sectors in the financial services industry. As we progress with this project, the aim is to foster a collaborative approach to policy-making that serves both individual interests and the broader economic landscape.
