Global growth has been steady even as growth in Europe and China continues to disappoint because India and the US are still surprising to the upside. Yet fears of a US hard landing have resurfaced and a US Federal Reserve, which now more comfortable with inflation, has joined most of the world’s central banks in starting to loosen the monetary reins. Janet will set out her economic outlook for 2024-2026 and consider some scenarios for growth, inflation, world trade and policy rates that could evolve as a consequence of the November US election.

Janet Henry is a British Economist who has been serving as Global Chief Economist at HSBC since 2015. Janet studied economics at University College London and then began her career with the Economic Intelligence Unit. She joined HSBC in 1996, holding roles including Chief European Economist before becoming Global Chief Economist. Janet is also a member of Handelsblatt's Shadow ECB Council.
