Language Programmes Evaluation
This project is a mixed methods evaluation of the Language Hubs, Language Assistants, German Promotion Project and UK-German Connection programmes aiming to promote and increase take-up of language learning in schools.

Summary & aims
A DfE-funded mixed method evaluation of a number of related intiatives designed to promote and enhance the teaching and learning of Modern Foreign Languages. These are Language Hubs, Language Assistants, the German Promotion Project and UK-German Connection.
Fifteen Language Hubs are working with Partner schools in their area to promote language-learning, increase the take-up of languages, particularly at GCSE, and improve transition between KS2 and KS3. Other aspects include programmes aiming to promote and increase take-up of language learning among Key stages 2 and 3 (especially German) and to improve the quality of Modern Foreign Language teaching.
Methodology
It comprises an implementation and process evaluation with surveys, interviews and case study visits; and an impact evaluation using a matching QED approach with analysis of administrative data carried out by DfE analysts. It will also explore using LEO data to evaluate the impact on the attainment and employment of English Language Assistants.
Case study visits will include field notes, interviews, lesson observations and pupil focus groups. Fieldwork will be conducted annually.
